VM Family Law is Bolton’s only niche, highly specialist family law firm. The firm was established in 2020 by Victoria Melling who has been working in family law for over 25 years. She has since been joined by 5 experienced solicitors, two paralegals and a legal secretary, giving the team over 100 years of collective experience in family law.

We pride ourselves on keeping our knowledge up to date to ensure that our clients receive the correct legal advice and the best possible outcome.

Victoria has been described in Legal 500 as superb within her field. She has many years of experience in matrimonial finance and is an expert within this area. Her care of clients is magnificent.

Initial Free Consultation

We offer an initial free appointment of up to 1 hour with an experienced family lawyer to ensure you receive bespoke advice from that very first meeting.

Many firms offering free appointments only offer them with paralegals or trainees or junior solicitors and are usually time limited to no more than 30 minutes. Here at VM Family Law we are different as all new clients are seen by one of our experienced solicitors.

This gives you the opportunity to get to know us, test our approach and see if we are the right family law firm for you.

Please note that we cannot offer Legal Aid and in our experience it can be beneficial for those who may be eligible for Legal Aid to speak to a Legal Aid practitioner from the outset.

As Resolution members we believe in resolving disputes in a constructive non-confrontational way, but this does not mean we shy away from court proceedings and in fact we conduct much of our own advocacy where many solicitors will rely on barristers even for preliminary hearings.

There are lots of people who try and give you advice on such matters  and horror stories about divorced lawyers being blood suckers and very expensive.  Yes, it costs money, but how expensive it will be is down to you being upfront and fully open about your situation.  For my personal situation, I had the team of Ceri Thomas and Julie Stott, who were simply the best. They listened to me intently, spoke to me with a very caring nature, gave me valuable advice, and contacted me very promptly via email with any new updates concerning my situation.
